Romborama

Romborama

The Bloody Beetroots are set to release their debut album ‘Romborama’ on the 25th of August. I’m predicting a mix of electro, punk, hip-hop and classical influenced tracks. I’m glad there are a few golden oldies in there as well, hopefully edited further to the album release. We have a low quality version of the second track of the album which is quite literally classical music infused electro. Not something which will blow your mind, but a good listen. Lets hope The Bloody Beetroots don’t let us down, but I wouldn’t mind too much, the album cover is fucking awesome!

UPDATE!

You may remember us posting Bollocks Brothers ‘Fakin’ It’ a while back, and we were confused by the non-existence of Bollocks Brothers on myspace or pretty much goddamn anywhere. Well I just got my hands on The Bloody Beetroots album (don’t worry I’ll definately buy it when it comes out), and it turns out that one of the tracks, ‘It’s Better a DJ on 2 Turntables’, is this mysterious ‘Fakin’ It’ which we ripped off a Sound of Stereo mixtape, the only source in the world at the time!!! The album version has many more layers and is hyped up a lot, which is insane. Well I won’t give you the album verison, wait till it comes out, its fucking good, the whole thing! But here’s a reminder and a very teasy teaser.

BOLLOCKS BROTHERS – FAKIN’ IT =THE BLOODY BEETROOTS – IT’S BETTER A DJ ON 2 TURNTABLES (OLD VERSION)

And, probably my favourite electro track ever (and Mustard Pimp’s, but that hasn’t influenced me, promise!) ‘Detroit (Ghetto Edit)’  by The Bloody Beetroots is ‘Talkin’ in my sleep’ off the album. Again its edited for the album with different vocals and more sounds added. I think they used some Missy Elliot vocals on ‘Detroit (Ghetto Edit)’ so legally they had to redo the vocals. Being obsessed with the original for over a year now, I don’t prefer the album version to be honest, but its still amazing and I’m so glad its on there. Anyway here’s ‘Detroit (Ghetto Edit)’ in all its pride and glory, but don’t get too used to those vocals!

THE BLOODY BEETROOTS – DETROIT (GHETTO EDIT) = THE BLOODY BEETROOTS – TALKIN’ IN MY SLEEP (OLD VERSION)

Well how about that then, I’m pretty sure I got a little over-excited about that! But I can’t tell you how pleased and amazed that those two tracks are on there. 25th of August is the release dat of Romborama, support your favourite Spidey-Punks!

COSMIC SOUNDS

cosmic_ray_supernova

the world is so overrun with bass right now. it leaks and oozes from every little dark corner. it glows and wobbles and slurs, and brains itself against walls and sprays gunk and queasyness. us wizards are among the biggest supporters of this movement, but i think hidden cat’s sound is very refreshing when faced by the overwhelming amount of wobble and wonk and fuzz that fills the world

THERE IS NO DEATH BY BASS !!!

BUT RIDICULOUSLY CATCHY UPLIFTING SQUEAKS OF LIGHT !!!

——————–

HIDDEN CAT – HINTS

[banging intro gives way to a shiny connection of sounds in an awesome array of brilliance]

HIDDEN CAT – SUPERFUTURE

[energetic chopped up samples with an incredible disco vibe that spells of joy to come]

BELINDA CARLISLE – HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH (HIDDEN CAT REMIX)

[i dont really know what to say…this is funny]

MYSPACE

skream is in for the kill

been waiting for this one in good quality for a bit. it is amazing. skream at his minimal peak. la roux’s  shudderingly beautiful voice with a trademark skew courtesy of croydon. now here we have it at 320!

la roux – in for the kill (skream’s let’s get ravey remix)

Now relax….for a second

chemical_vid_thumbRecently I realised how I’ve only really been posting banging, dirty electronic tracks. I thought to myself, what about the electronic tracks which I listen to and give me that uplifting feeling which isn’t brought up by obscene drops and dirty synth sounds. So I thought I’d share the more relaxing side of electronic music with you which have been a huge part of my listening.

Shinichi Osawa – Main Street Electrical Parade Borerline cheesy but actual electronic genius. The Japanese hero really does have huge array of styles and this one is a real feel good track.

The Chemical Brothers ft. Fatlip – The Salmon Dance I’m sure you’ve heard this one, but if you haven’t, I have nothing to say but LISTEN. An absolute classic with a cheeky synth melody and a chorus to die for.

Red Organ Serpent Sound – Autobahn (La Priest Remix) Only 96kbps, really sorry. La Priest as you may or not know is Samuel Eastgate’s of Late of the Pier superb side project. The last half of this song is so unbeleivably happy and just awesome.

The Chemical Brothers – Burst Generator Electronica/physcadelica genius. With delayed guitar and synth hugeness and a driving beat, this one is euphoria through and through.

Right, relaxing time is over, here’s a new batch of bangers! Enjoy.

Cazals – Poor Innocent Boys (Shinichi Osawa Remix) A fidgety Bloody Beetrootsesque drop with some feel good tunes in there as well.

Blatta & Inesha – El Ritmo Barbaro Some cool Italian fidget. This stuff is a breath of fresh air. Whiring, chugging and squelching, ultra cool!

The Prodigy – Omen (Hervé’s End of the World Remix) Really dirty! You can always trust Herve. Cool vocal samples and a tasty, descending hook.

Hostage – Shake It (AC Slater Remix) We LOVED the orginal. The remix by the successful New York lad is also superb with an ominous wobble bass pulsating ryhtmically rivalling the original’s also freaky sound.

The Qemists – Dem Na Like Me (A1 Bassline Remix) One of his more commercial remixes but doesn’t let you down with the classic A1 bass sound and a catchy hook.

box – head (s)

meet the BOX – HEAD (s)  – honestly what a fantastic idea. the work of japanese designers fei and shuFen/KSF – brilliant.

look at the rest here!

now for music! today i have for you one of the happiest little jigs in the truly insane style of hudson mohawke. straight off his new EP polyfolk dance -BUY IT AT bleep for ONLY £4 – this song chops beautiful vocal loops and mixes them in with soft hushy synthesizers to make real life magic happen in your heart!

velvet peel

for the other end of the scale is a new track from RESO… in the words of mary anne hobbs – this is an absolute monster. it is yet to be released – called OCTACON – and it really is damn huge. everyday i am feeling like the dubstep crowd is moving that bit closer to breakcore. to the likes of venetian snares and otto von schirach. i think i find that worrying.i mean raffertie!he is basically there! so here it is, cut from hobbs’ experimental radio 1 mixtape….OOOOOH DEAR!

OCTACON [radio rip]

and without further ado i present focus. dutch progressive rock. literally defies description. THEY MUST BE ABSOLUTELY CRAZY I SWEAR. BIG UP george williams for this one.

ACID ACID ACID

The god that is erol alkan has, this year, surprised and amazed both dance and alternative music critics with his side project and band beyond the wizard’s sleeve. alkan and bandmate richard norris combine to create pieces that reconstruct the psychedelia of the 70’s using a unique mixture of musical know how and technical wizardry. they have also been known to put layer upon layer of acid drenched sitars on top of the rolling stones, very erol. They have four EPs (Birth, Spring, George and West) a whole load of brilliant mixes (check erols podcast) and have injected their style into contemporary songs by legends such as late of the pier, the chemical brothers and peter, bjorn and john(?).  (ps. sorry richard norris for giving erol so much love can’t help it)

Listen to these beyond the wizard’s sleeve’s tracks and remixes, happy tripmas!

beyond the wizard’s sleeve – red tuesday

My absolute favourite erol related track! Description: The most amazing high in music played by sitars, oooooooooooo yyyeeeeeahhhhhhhhh!

beyond the wizard’s sleeve – get ready to fly

A nice, cool physcadellic rock track.

late of the pier – the bears are coming (beyond the wizard’s sleeve remix)

BEST BAND EVER, I SHIT YOU NOT, fucking awesome orginal song which Erol stays true to.  i’m sorry, but its a fucking no brainer.

peter, bjorn and john – young folks (beyond the wizard’s sleeve remix)

We do like our mainstream….sometimes. Erol tripifies a 2008 hit.

the chemical brothers – battle scars (beyond the wizard’s sleeve remix)

A  tribal remix of a track by one of the best electronic duo’s ever.

b

more erol! The next two are edits of the French prince himself sebastiAn.

sebastiAn – momy (erol alkan’s simple, yet effective edit)

sebastiAn – walkman (erol alkan edit)

Its Christmas in two days! Here’s another one which does need to be explained. erol produced late of the pier’s epic/classic/amazing/…..fucking amazing album fantasy black channel, and has since taken on the role of mentor to late of the pier with them even citing him as a father figure. Lead singer Samuel Eastgate (a.k.a. Samuel Dust) has started a solo project, with erol helping on some of the production and generally eroling it up a bit, called LA priest. I emplore you to listen! Melodic and electronic sublimity.

LA priest – engine
