Four

Today four awesome EP’s have been released. Four in one day! Fucking awesome. First up the musical mastermind that is James Blake and his much anticipated CMYK’ EP. Again he uses his artistry in producing to chop and pitch shift vocal samples from the likes of Kelis and Aaliyah and accompanying them with his signature organ inspired misty synths, avant garde percussion and gorgeous subtle sub bass. Obviously not everyones cup of tea, but perhaps it should be.

Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 have really got it going on, releasing innovative dance music from their label Night Slugs and coming up with some really cool artwork. Their new release from Lil Silva is seriously repping the london funky/grime house style. Night Slugs should be a genre for christs sake! Again huge tracks and 6 of them. How long will they be bettering their last releases is what I want to know! Listen to a couple of the tracks here at XLR8R.

I lied, this EP was released last week but fuck it. Dubbel Dutch is another man who’s pushing the boundaries of house. He released his ‘Throwback’ EP with Palms Out Sound and boasts funky/tribal beats, clever synth and bass work with yet again clever use of vocal samples. The release is currently sitting pretty at the top of the Juno Downloads chart. Worth a buy? I think so.

Now to one of our most loved artists, its Mightfools with a new EP on probably my favourite electro house label, Belgium’s Lektroluv. Only two tracks on this one, but still enough to blow one’s head off! It seems they are shying away from their wobbly basslines, of which we all came to adore, and adapted into a more classic electro house bass synth sound. Check it out.

SHINICHI OSAWA – EEAA (MUSTARD PIMP REMIX)

A bit of everything (but mostly house and dubstep)

Well after a week of voting in the poll for your favourite electronic music genre, the results were almost as I predicted with a 31% for house and 36% for dubstep, with garage and drum and bass coming in at 3rd equal with 6% each. However I wasn’t expecting drum and bass coming third as I’m pretty sure we’ve only posted one or two if any of the sort. A nice 13% for everything  as well which is always good to see. Well I feel after that and a few comments I feel little sound-batch is in order. Here’s some house (including a bit of jackin and fidget) and a few heavy dubs from DZ, Excision and Datsik. A little less thought provoking than the stuff we’ve been posting recently but still killa dancefloor tracks.

HOUSE (fidget, jackin, funky, electro)

oliver twizt – gangsterdam (nom de strip remix)

supra 1 – still believe ft. amy douglas (l-vis 1990 remix dub)

hijack – nuts (jeff doubleu remix)

primary 1 – princess (mj cole remix)

cold blank – the flying cat (the bulgarian remix)

will bailey – the dutty clem (tom eq’s speaker freaker remix)

DUBSTEP (heavy shit)

apex – nowhere to run (datsik & excision remix)

kelly dean & steady – teflon ft. kemst (datsik & excision remix)

dz & excision – round 2

Beataucue – Cha Cha Cha

Another sick French EP released two days ago is from one of my most hyped artists this year. I’m very pleased to see the the likes of Sharkslayer and Daniel Haaksman are remixing their debut EP, and with their success in creating great original tracks. Check out the minimix if you’re not convinced just by the idea of a Beataucue EP.

Brodinski – Arnold Classics

Well known frenchy Brodinski released his much anticipated ‘Arnold Classics’ EP a few days ago and has certainly not disappointed. The original is a driven housey wonder with a touch of groaning bass synths and syncopating percussion, but along side this we have some awesome remixes also. We already posted the brilliant remix by Tony Senghore (watch out for him) but I’m most excited about the Egyptrixx remix, such great production and signature great synth sound. And also check out Brodinski’s new side project with other French electro producer Yusek. They call themselves The Krays and this track is a delightful amalgamation of old school disco and new style warped electro house. Enjoy!

Sitar Beat!

I’ve always had a bit of thing for Indian music, so finding these releases have been most satisfying! Sitar Beat is a compilation of various funk enfused physcadelica pieces from Bollywood soundtracks of the 60’s, 70’s and 90’s. Think Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve and Kill Bill with a touch of beautiful Indian singing on some. The first volume was released in 2006 then each volume a year consecutively after. Thank you The Gaslamp Killer’s ‘We Make It Good’ mix, what a great man. Sitar Beat is perfect for the summer and a really interesting listen, get your acid heads on. Here’s some of my faves from Vol. 1 and 2.

klaus doldinger – sitar beat

kalyanji anandji – dharmatma theme music (tommy’s edit) (off The Gaslamp Killer’s mix)

serge gainsbourg – new delire

serge gainsbourg (with michel colombier)  – physcastenie (miles’ drum edit)

biddu (with mahar and anand) – hum tumhe chate hain (edit)

s.d. narang – everybody dance with me
