dubstep HAS, regardless of the sudden rise in ‘alternative’ dancing tunes, RULED the scene in london for the past few months. with regular nights such a FWD>> delivering every day of the week, it’s been really pretty draining on both body and soul…….chase & status have finally fucked off as well giving way to some new tracks!!! bonito.

After a few unhappy comments on my last post about the inevitable invasion of minimal/tribal/tech house, which were actually expected, its probably best we give you some hugeness! You may have to get used to more minimal posts, seeing as us wizards actually quite like it now. But if you think we’re going soft on ya, well then…….you’re very wrong! Wobble and bass is in our veins and we’ll never grow tired of it! Constant bangers will be posted, and here’s a few which I’m loving at the moment.
First two tracks from electro wobbler Sticky K, both worthy of any dirty dancefloor. ‘The Testament of Dr. Mabuse’ sways towards the wobble side with a rhythmic bass synth and a fidgety beat. On the other hand ‘Alphaville’ is a horror film electro banger.
New Jack Beats remix here of guess who, La Roux. This is proper old school Jack Beats , with a definate tinge of their legendary remix of AC Slater’s ‘Jack Got Jacked’, but they also incorporate La Roux’s undoubtedly brilliant voice in the build ups and bridges. The main bassline rhythm is a classic, but certainly nothing new.
Joker’s on fire at the moment, producing dubstep that is actually pleasant to listen to. No chugging metallic bass (don’t get me wrong, we love hyper dub!). I’m loving this track, warm yet warped bass combined with Mario/Crystal Castles-esque synths creating a groovy dub instrumental.
More dub, but on a different level completely. I didn’t know that there was a Lopside EP by Stagga released a few months back. I downloaded the title track expecting greatness and that’s exactly what I got. This track is all over the place, hence ‘Lopside’, with Stagga’s signature sound pitch bending till your brain melts alongside a chilled beat thanks to the clever use of a ride cymbal.
Another man with a particularly superb signature sound is Gtronic. Along with his dirty dirty bass grinding along, there’s some very pleasant synth and vocal melodies in this remix of Heads We Dance’s ‘Sirens’.
Rico Tubbs is a man on form. We loved ‘Cutty’ which we posted a few weeks ago. Usual use of a funky disco feel, topped off with his brilliantly created wobbly bassline.
This next tune is a real journey. A massive build up including syncopating bongos, interesting effects on the vocals and great production climaxing to a short period of crazy ravy synths.
Ha! An absolute classic original track which is Fat Boy Slim’s ‘Right Here, Right Now’ is confidently remixed by Trumpdisco, staying true to the original and bringing it into 2009 by remixing it as an excellent electro banger.
Afrojack has already impressed us with his remix of Silvio Ecomo and Chuckie’s ‘Moombah’ which is probably my tribal house anthem so far this year. His latest remix of Kid Cudi’s collabroation with Kanye West’s ‘Make Her Say’, is more fidgety with a solid beat and bending synths, but he still brings a tribal feel with bongos and cowbells.
Finally we have quite an old tune from Foamo, but a classic none the less. Probably one of his more original and experimental tunes with use of strange ascending bass synths with a few wobbles here and there.

If you’re into dubstep, and haven’t heard Stagga , (i.e. you haven’t been alive) then your in for a treat. If you have heard him, then you’re also in for a treat, here’s his new superb EP with 4 diversive dubstep tracks with Stagga’s original, hollow sound. Its hard to find a smidgen of originality these days in dubstep, well saying that, in anything. But here, even though the rhythms could be related to other tracks, the way in which Stagga executes them is a breath of fresh air. ‘Determined’ is the main track of the EP and a proper dancefloor track. The others seep originallity and you can get lost in them. ‘Rocking Down The House’ kicks off a really chillllllled reggae track, which has been used a few times by other artists in the 90’s (Adonis, Basement Jaxx, MI 7), then breaks into some actually quite un-Stagga bass but wobbly as fuck, but still keeping some of the reggae sample in parts. ’The LSD User’ is bedtime for aliens dub with a muddy, pulsating bass sound, whilst ‘The Science of Skank’ is nightmarish and dark made with the vocals from Juakali and the classic staggasound stuck on repeat. What variation and quality!

[fantastic grindy dubstep with ridiculously fat bass drops - GET MORE JAYOU MAGIC FROM THE MAD MEN OVER AT HUSH HOUSE]
[imagine a pumpy garage beat getting it on with one of timbalands synthesisers - AND THEN EVERYTHING GOING VERY VERY WRONG - top form glitchy wobble]
[very large grime induced dubstep in this FULLY BADASS collaboration between jakes and joker]
[stagga continues to deliver brilliance. another bass experiment chopped and sliced in every possible way - KEEP UP WITH HIS PROGRESS OVER AT CHROME KIDS]
[jayou again - but i could not resist, this track is bloody sick. the haunting vocals of eastern jam muddled up with power electro chords and mindless bassy wobble - YES!]
[two wobble beasts hit up by VR on sunday that have really been making my week very wonky indeed - these would RUIN a dancefloor]
[pure, unadulterated fidget fun, tasty vocals, glitchy beats, sea sick bass, and all the other elements that make lee mortimer the talent that he is]

the kaptin over at chrome kids has been flying the flag for young welsh dub star STAGGA (along with the equally insane MONKEY) for the past few years, and i feel like not enough people are listening. these boys are sick!
if you missed my post of his phenomenal forthcoming track – SICK AS SIN, which will be released soon on rag n bone alongside the obscene ‘preditory control freeks’ - then you should get it. but the reason i am doing this one is to promote stagga’s last release on RUDEEZ, as you can see above – for no other reason than that it is insanely good.
jacqueline is as pure as pure dub, a brilliantly produced gem to moozle away to, and policemen get hype – well you can make up your own mind. but really - this is fucking genius

AND SEE THEM BOTH AT BEDLAM, CARDIFF STUDENT UNION - 7TH MARCH !

okay so i posted this track way back when we were not the mega power house we now are. and it is so unbelievable – welsh dubstep which honestly wobbles and crunks and everything funny more times in a second than a hamburger on a ferris wheel (apparently). IT is stupid how wonky this song is
