7 new awesome tracks and covering a wide array of todays dance scene. We have Dutch house, dubstep, tribal, tech, minimal, wobbly fidget and whirring electro. Bring it on bitch!
LEE MORTIMER – IT DON’T STOP New Lee Mortimer original which has really impressed me. His stuff over the last year as generally been ok but nothing special. This track has some very well executed wobbly bass and a bit of variation. Keep it up Lee.
EXCISION, DATSIK – SWAGGA Absolute dubstep classic already. Been in pipeline for a while now but just thought I’d upload the full version. Chug, wobble, scream, die!
CLAUDE VONSTROKE – VOCAL CHORDS Angelic minimal house track literally using vocal chords cut up and laid into perfect order.
KID KOUMAS – GIRLZ WHAT (PROWLEY BURGLARS REMIX) The rather elusive Prowley Burglars has produced an absolutely banging whirring electro house remix, shame we don’t know more about them.
AFROJACK – ZEGGIE Starting off with ‘A Millie’ vocals then going to relentless bleeps and then constantly morphing throughout this great house track.
LUCA LOZANO – BERLINETTA (J PHILIP REMIX) Ominous sounding tech house track with a great ambience, weird sounds and tropical beat.
CLASSIXX, VILLAINS – I’M ON IT FEAT. O8O (AC SLATER REMIX) Bouncy house from the consistent AC Slater, slightly repetetive but not you standard wobbler.

Dance blog kings Crookers are back with two new remixes. The first of Fever Ray has a slightly minimal tune with a strangely catchy hook and a thumping bass drum. The second of Tiga’s ‘Beep Beep Beep’ includes monotone distorted bass and high ravy synths. Great stuff.

Big tune awaiting from Lee Mortimer andLaidback Luke. We only have a sneaky preview, but enough to tell you that there’s a funky wobble monster on the way to tear your house down! The other Lee tune is a remix of Franz Ferdinand is a house version of the original but still very much enjoyable with cheeky synth lines and a thumping beat.

Fake Blood’s always on fire. The new remix of The Gossip brings the Fake Blood signature sound and uses the vocals excellently. Also get your hands on their superb EP by buying it with the link below!
Sorry that picture is a bit intense, but then again it is Hostage with some new tunes, INTENSE! ‘Badman Sound’ really lives up to its name with whirring mental bass and ravy synths. Hostage has truly switched to the afrobeat as many producers have. It also shows in his other tune ‘Hanging’which is more funky with an old disco sample and a bleepy bendy synth.

This mix really contains brand spanking new stuff and really sums up the best dance of TODAY! Get all the tracks off the mix when you can, some you can even find on this blog!

If you’ve visited our blog a few times before, you’ve probably realised that we only really post particularly maximal bassy jump up tunes. Our favourite dance sub-genres generally ranges from wobble/fidget to dubstep to electro. I’ve always been aware of minimal techno and have recently been introduced to tribal/dancehall, and to be honest I’ve always turned my nose up to that whole scene. Maybe its because I’m afraid of actually having to dance and not just jumping around like a tool (which is excusable and actually most practised at the kind of club nights I go to). But in the last few weeks, I, and surely any blog regular, has noticed a change in the course of the underground dance scene, favouring this minimal/afrobeat/funky phenomena.
When this radical transformation was confirmed, in my mind (over at Pelski), I was actually quite upset, remembering when I used to be excited about the energy the next new maximal tune would give me, then hearing those tunes in the clubs and subsequently going fucking crazy! However, even though I knew of this new scene coming in and threatening to steal away my precious power nuggets, I have realised a slight regurgitation of maximal tunes after hearing similar bassline melodies, rhythms and sounds in various tracks. Basically there isn’t much new happening in our beloved wizardy wobblecoaster world, simply because there isn’t much more to do within it without being a fucking nutjob about it. I can now certainly understand the shift and it angers me no more! Instead of getting worked up, I have tried to embrace minimal, and have been somewhat succesful. With a little help from Pelski’s suggestions and analysises, I think i’m starting to enjoy the syncopating afro drums and bleepy rhythmic synths. There may still be hope yet! Anyway, enough about me, lets see what you think. Here’s a selection of the minimal tunes I’m listening to, some I’m enjoying very much, and some I’m still trying to get my head round.

Let’s start off with a couple of tunes from my favourite new artist of the scene, Momma’s Boy, who is probably better known by me and you as Mikix The Cat. There has always been slightly tribal and experimental vibes in Mikix The Cat’s music amongst the tasty basslines, so it comes of no surprise that he has very much delved into the afrobeat/minimal scene. My favourite dancehall track at the moment is his own ‘Give It Up’ and has already been much blogged, boasting a ridiculously infectious square synth. His other tune I’ll post, is a remix of Douster (also well respected on the scene). This tune is a bit more experimental, with descending delayed synths resembling some sort of string instument like a banjo almost!

Another familiar face but under the same name is Mowgli. I’ve always loved his wobbly yet minimal style. These two tracks have a very small amount of wobbly bass, if at all. Yes Mowgli’s gone a lot more minimal and afrostyley. The track ‘Sequencer’ is melee of juddery, bleepy and ravy synths with an underlying afrobeat. ‘I’m A DJ’ is on all the mixes at the moment, another very popular tune in the scene, using more high bleepy synths, a very subtle touch of wobbly bass and more of a proper house beat than most tribal tunes.

Another signature tune has to be Renaissance Man’s ‘The Rythym’. This one’s probably up there with my favourites of the genre as well, building up with pleasant hollow bleepy synths then adding a lazy minimal bass wobble. Thats probably the first time I’ve used the word ‘pleasant’ to describe a synth on this blog, ha! The other tune is a remix of Sharkslayer’s ‘So Sincere’, which is captiviting with its rhythmic yet subtle tom toms and strange sounding synth producing a good ambience.

Next up artistwise is Zombie Disco Squad, a key artist in the movement. Perhaps slighly more to their music (sound not quality) than others previously posted, using larger sounds and filling in the gaps slightly more. First up is their remix of VV Brown’s ‘Shark In The Water’, a nice build up to a climax of cut up vocals and a couple of synths meshing to create catchy melodies and rhythms. Their next tune is ‘Banton Boot’. Much blogged but not one of my favourites. A bootleg of Hard House Banton’s ‘Zulu Form’ with use of the Fingers Inc ‘In My House’ acapella, notibally used in AC Slater’s ‘Jack Got Jacked’.
Now a selection of minimal/tribal tunes from various artists. An extroardinarilly happy tune with the help of lovely vocal harmonies from El Guincho’s ‘Kalise’ which Round Table Knights have remixed into an absolute hit. Loving this one!
Remix by Frenchie minimaller Douster here. Quite intense for a minimal tune! Probably the basshead’s minimal tune of choice in this post. Stabbing synths and a satisfing wet bass note here and there.
We’ve already heard Crookers’ remix of Mixhell’s ultimate bleepmeister ‘Boom Da’, awesome tune. Now here’s a stripped down remix of ‘Boom Da’ by Downtown, who doubles the bleeps and adds some better vocals samples in than the Crookers remix whilst obviously creating an subtle afro ambience.
These next two tracks are the original and a remix. Both containing brilliant dancehall qualities. Afro drums and high descending synths actually causing your feet to jig on the beat!
Now this one I just had to post to show how ridiculously minimal minimal can be (weirdly!?). Literally a weak bass drum thumping on the beat, throughout, with a few other tom toms and thats about it! Apart from that the odd strange sound and a constant, very much background, ominous ambience. Very hard to get my head round this one!
Well thats all I really know about the new minimal scene which has been emerging recently. I hope you weren’t to offended as I was. Evidently a lot more of that in the future, but don’t worry you basshead’s, still a lot more maximal madness to come as well. Big thanks to Pelski who really jump-started my acceptance to a really quite interesting sub-genre of dance.

No need to explain why this new Jack Beats remix is so good, cos they all are. I will say that they’ve turned up the treble and used some more ravy synths, but still keeping their exceptional rhythm and spotless production. Be sure to buy the U.F.O EP which will be out on the 3rd of August.

Company C has been a great friend to Wizards Are Better. He has pretty much the same taste in music, he shares his mixes with us, he even sent us some top tracks by other artists! A true fan. His latest mix again contains the best of the best in wobble (including my track ‘Mr Blobbly’!) and I’ll post one of the tracks he sent us which is ‘Outlaw’ by Mikix The Cat which boasts a nasty bassline and another which is on the mix, Lee Mortimer’s edit of Edu K’s remix of ‘The Joker’ by Dem Slackers, wow that was a mouthful, but worth it, awesome tune.

Peace

Wow what a night. I’ve only just been able to reach the computer to write this. My legs and neck are still fucked from bouncing and head banging, but oh was it worth it! Above is a nice picture of Mustard Pimp who played from 11 till 12 and still fucking destroyed the dancefloor, even though one of the decks broke near the beginning, (we had a back-up thank god!). They had an awesome set playing a mixture of wobbly, banging and fidgety house including one of my absolute favourites by the men themselves “Oh La La Satan“, and finishing with their new dubsteppy track ‘Bagarre’ which I have fallen in love with, hear it on their myspace, NOW! Stereoheroes were next and played their stuttery, fidget style tracks and many other classics, with their own “Poundcakes” being my track of their set. Klose One closed the night with literally the best of dirty dubstep finishing off a superb night which we could only get to go on till 3, but wow was I out like a light afterwards. Big big big ups to Dem Slackers who played first from 10-11 with a small crowd, which isn’t ideal, but they still played an excellent set including Lee Mortimer’s remix of their own “God Is A Slacker” and closing with one of the best minimal wobble tracks ever made “Snailtrail“ which we hope to nab off them soon. After befriending the Dutch duo, who are fucking geezers, I find it my duty to post a few of their tracks which really haven’t had enough publicity.
Finally I’d like to thank everyone who came along, you guys made it, including A1 Bassline and the dudes from Love That Tune blog. And of course, big thanks to Dem Slackers, Mustard Pimp, Stereoheroes and Klose One who played perfect, perfect sets! Oooh, and whats that I hear?! Another Wizards Are Better night soon!? September!? Sweeeeeeeet.
Thanks again everyone!
PEACE

Sharkslayer have been impressing me recently, they had a whole lot of good tracks out this time last year then produced, well, fuck all since earlier this year. This track ‘Skanking Riddim’ is one of there best, with their classic whirring, trebley fidget sound.
Now two remixes by Gigi Barocco. They’re not new, but i’ve noticed a lack of posting on these two very tasty tracks around the blogosphere. WHY!
Now three tracks which I’ll group together. A Calvertron track, this boy will be big! A new Lee Mortimer remix, nuff said. And a grinding remix by Heavyfeet.

i haven’t posted in fucking ages so here’s a bigg’un. my excuse……..i’ve been busy organising the first wizards are better night. taking place in london on the 9th of july>>>>we’re bringing all our favorites along. MUSTARD PIMP>>STEREOHEROES>>DEM SLACKERS>>KLOSE ONE. be sure to be there. and there’s much more to come!!!! NOW // MUSIC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
i’ve been loving my dubstep at the moment even venturing into the depths of matter to attend RAM records>>which was insane>>benga and plastician blew me away!!! (but i swear if i hear anymore fucking chase & status i think i’m gonna pee blood…….. yeah saxon’s good but every other fucking song!) so here’s plastician’s may 09 mix featuring exclusive VIPs aplenty and some serious bass. and, also on the dubstep flavours we got gutfucker (version2) from stenchman. a huge huge portion of your daily bass allowance.
………………………………………………..
……………………………………
i’ve also been getting highly excited about the sound coming outta this one. GTronic. who has been featured recently but since then we’ve found a brilliant original, slasher, which comes full equipped with GTronic’s already standout hollow roar sound. HUGE!! and a remix of foamo’s ‘everything cool’ probably my fav. of all the gtronic tunes i’ve been able to get my hands on….catchy vocals, a huge drop, this song is every bit the dancefloor destroyer.
…………………………………………….
we’ve also got a preview of the new lee mortimer and foamo collaboration which is absolutely huge. it’s name is, suitably, ‘it’s going down’. however, it does sound real similar to the rusko remix of day’n'night…but, sick none the less. along with a 1.30 version of UFO (k-hole bass riddem)!!!!!! i cannot wait one more minute for the UFO ep. not one more.
……………………………………………….
jACK BEATs//UFO (k-Hole BAsS RIDDEM) (1.30 PREVIEW!!!)(REMOVED ON REQUEST)
…………………………………….
and yet more. i’ve been loving the remixes that have come out of the kick it ep by ct burners & jubilee, released on the nightshifters label. there’s a superb squire remix and a superb donna summer remix. the squire remix has all that one expects but having never heard donna summer before i was pleasantly surprised. another tune that’s had me double checking my ipod again and again and going>>’gotta remember that’, and i did. so good.
…………………………………………..
………………………….
and!!!!!!!!!!! new math head. i think. but none the less good math head. i really can’t get enough of his style. ever. so dark. like burial but interesting…
………………………………………………

and finally here’s a little treat that i found on hostage’s twitter. it’s called pissing about and it’s sick. a bouncy, bleepy number that even slips into a bit o drum&bass at the end. sexy. AND the fake blood remix of animal by miike snow. what a song!
………………………………………………………….
…………………………………………….
bye.
