Magik Johnson – Stand Up EP

This is the new release by Kiwi dude Magik Johnson on one of the best electro/fidget house labels, Potty Mouth Music. There’s a bit of everything in this EP; quirky and catchy jackin/electro/fidget house. The highlight for me is the Calvertron remix (sorry Magik!). He remixes ‘The Boy Blew’ making it more bouncy and accessible in the first half but obviously couldn’t help but break into his renowned wibbly wobbly style. Fidget Folk: Calvertron

The recent surge of new fidget house into the blog has definately been topped by three producers for me: Calvertron, Bill Eff and Mini K. First up we have Calvertron from South West England who I’ve raved about before a few times for his style of energetic fidget with a perfect mix of trebbly synths and wobbly bass. Here are some of his crazy remixes.

Blatta & Inesha’s new EP ‘Urban Power’ is insane, we’ve already posted the original ‘Raw Power which we love. Calvertron has also done a remix of the other original track ‘Urban Cougar’ but I thought this one was better. Fidgety synths make a powerful tune and then he encoorporates a very Jack Beats-eque wobble sound and rhythm.

Ascending and descending sythns mixed up with wet wobbles in this remix. Some very trashy sounds all in all making a powerful remix.

UK fidget heads Calvertron and Itchy Feet have released an excellent EP on Chicago based fidget house label Potty Mouth Music. Its out on beatport exclusively for the next four weeks then its released on all online stores. The tracks are brilliant with the two originals being extremely wobbly and Magik Johnson’s remix not so but still very danceable. Calvertron

As the artists chronicles continues, a trend I seem to have formed with my recent posts just focusing on single artists, I feel Calvertron should definately get more than a mention. Having emerged as an avid producer this year, he is now showing that he is really more than capable of making some sick wobbly, fidget house tunes. I know there’s a lot of stuff out there which we describe as wobbly fidget, and sometimes its hard to differentiate between the good and the great, well Calvertron has consisently produced real dancefloor thrillers and has obviously put a lot of thought into his overall sound and style. All of these tracks are worthy of carnage, even if your on your own!

Sharkslayer have been impressing me recently, they had a whole lot of good tracks out this time last year then produced, well, fuck all since earlier this year. This track ‘Skanking Riddim’ is one of there best, with their classic whirring, trebley fidget sound.
